{"id":8648,"date":"2026-08-25T22:22:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T22:22:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/demo5.dedicatedhost247.com\/zexo\/spacex-plans-to-build-a-100-billion-spaceport-in-louisiana\/"},"modified":"2026-08-25T22:22:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T22:22:09","slug":"spacex-plans-to-build-a-100-billion-spaceport-in-louisiana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/demo5.dedicatedhost247.com\/zexo\/spacex-plans-to-build-a-100-billion-spaceport-in-louisiana\/","title":{"rendered":"SpaceX plans to build a $100 billion spaceport in Louisiana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"RegularArticle-ArticleBody-5\" data-module=\"ArticleBody\" data-test=\"articleBody-2\" data-analytics=\"RegularArticle-articleBody-5-2\"><span class=\"HighlightShare-hidden\" style=\"top:0;left:0\"\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"InlineImage-imageEmbed\" id=\"ArticleBody-InlineImage-108339153\" data-test=\"InlineImage\">\n<div class=\"InlineImage-wrapper\">\n<div>\n<p>Ship 40 is stacked atop Booster 20 in preparation for Flight 13 at SpaceX&#8217;s South Texas facility in Cameron County, Texas, on July 22, 2026. <\/p>\n<p>Reginald Mathalone | Nurphoto | Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/elon-musk\/\">Elon Musk<\/a> is continuing his push into the Southern U.S. with <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/SPCX\/\">SpaceX<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span>, his aerospace and tech conglomerate, planning a $100 billion launch facility in Louisiana.<\/p>\n<p>In a joint statement, the Louisiana Economic Development office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opportunitylouisiana.gov\/news\/spacex-launches-new-era-of-commercial-spaceflight-with-100-billion-louisiana-campus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> on Tuesday that SpaceX will establish its Starbase in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, at a former Exxon property to, &#8220;support thousands of launches annually.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>SpaceX stock rose about 2% to close at $137.95. <\/p>\n<p>Once built, Starbase, LA will serve as the main launch facility for Starship, SpaceX&#8217;s in-development rocket that&#8217;s the largest ever built and designed to be fully reusable. <\/p>\n<p>Musk has aspirations to massively expand SpaceX&#8217;s Starlink satellite network, to launch orbital data centers and to someday colonize Mars. Those ambitions, and justification for SpaceX&#8217;s nearly $2 trillion market cap, hinge on the success of Starship.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>SpaceX said, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spacex.com\/sites\/starbase-la\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">video posted<\/a> to its website on Tuesday, that the search for a site to build launch pads and have access to ample fuel for its operations took about seven years. Musk said in the video that the company would bring &#8220;probably 10,000 really exciting jobs&#8221; to Louisiana with the spaceport. <\/p>\n<p>A fact sheet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opportunitylouisiana.gov\/spacex\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">posted online by<\/a> the state of Louisiana said SpaceX is expected to generate an estimated &#8220;3,000 direct new jobs over the next 10 years&#8221; in the state, and &#8220;8,100 indirect new jobs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>SpaceX said it would work on a &#8220;historic coastal restoration&#8221; in Louisiana, in partnership with the state to &#8220;bring the marsh back&#8221; and ensure the wetlands around its new facility will have &#8220;storm protection.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Republican Governor Jeff Landry signed bills, that <a href=\"https:\/\/thecurrentla.com\/2026\/bills-carving-out-favors-for-aerospace-companies-become-state-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">became law<\/a> in May, exempting some aerospace projects in Louisiana from public review, and making unauthorized entry into a spaceport a felony. They also offered financial incentives to aerospace manufacturers.  <\/p>\n<p>SpaceX previously faced community backlash, lawsuits and fines following environmental violations at its first Starbase facility in Boca Chica, Texas, in the company town now known as Starbase.<\/p>\n<p>In its first test flight of Starship in April 2023 in Texas, energy from the rocket caused SpaceX&#8217;s concrete launchpad to explode and its spacecraft to blow up in midair. The company said Louisiana was its fourth launch site. <\/p>\n<p>Musk&#8217;s AI venture, now known as SpaceXAI, built out its Colossus data centers and a power plant in Greater Memphis. Before that, Musk relocated the headquarters of his automaker, <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-7\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/TSLA\/\">Tesla<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span>, from California to Austin, Texas.
